50+ Fearless Feminine Power

Baby Boomer Woman-What Will You Do This Year?

As I approach my 59th birthday this month, I am again reminded about how fast time goes by. Birthdays do that, don’t they? They cause you to stop and think-evaluate where you are and where you are heading. So many things are happening this year. This year my youngest daughter left the nest and I am not going to lie-it was a sad first few weeks of letting go. My husband and I missed hearing her stories when she came home from her Interior Design job in Boston. She breathed energy into our home with her dynamic personality and it felt empty for awhile. My middle daughter got engaged to the love of her life. It has been a year filled with planning and getting excited and lots of female bonding with her and her sisters.  Her happiness fills my heart and I am soo grateful! And my oldest daughter and son in law are having a baby-our first Grandchild. He is a little boy and we are already madly in love with him. We are excitedly planning the nursery in their new home with heartfelt anticipation. And life goes on………. There are some changes that are unplanned in our lives and whether or not they bring us joy or sadness, it is up to us to determine how we will adapt. But there is a restless side in me that doesn’t want to just “adapt”. That side of me wants to create my life from the inside out-living intentionally and with purpose. I want to be in alignment with those things that mean the most to me-to tap...

Baby Boomer Women- Finally Having Your Cake and Eating it Too

Many of us in the Baby Boomer generation know what it is like to see life go by too quickly. We wish that we could just slow down time so that we could savor the moments. If you are a business owner like myself maybe you too wish that you didn’t have to work so many hours. Maybe you want to create a deeper meaning in your life and business so that your business is an extension of a life lived on purpose. And you also want to be feel financially abundant! You want to have your cake and eat it too. Our careers or businesses have been born and sometimes fizzled in lieu of something else. In the blink of an eye our babies have left the nest to start their lives anew. Loved ones have left us-some far too soon. Some of us have become Grandparents. Often our dreams have been usurped by responsibilities and duty. We wish we had more time and energy to revel in the nuances of everyday life instead of being pulled into the undertow of making a living. We wish that we had more time for our art or writing or spirituality or taking better care of our bodies or……..(fill in the blanks). Those  of us who worked hard to create a business or career that would support our family are beginning to want something more. We may love our businesses but we know that there is something missing…….something very important! We want ourselves back! We want to live our lives with intentionality! We want to start honoring the essence of who...

Living Your Life Agelessly

Some people are old at 18 and young at 90……time is a concept that humans created. ~Yoko Ono   I remember my Mother telling me that older women were treated as if they were invisible. My Grandmother said the same thing to me in regards to how the medical profession treated the elderly. She would do everything in her power to charm her Doctors and Nurses and from what I saw-they adored her. However, I believe that she used her charm so that they wouldn’t look at her as “less than” or an inconvenience. I will never forget when she was in her nineties and she was hospitalized. As each nurse came into the room she lavished her with compliments. My Grandmother told each and every one of them how beautiful they were and they all loved it. What made it really funny was that there was a sign over her head that said “legally blind”. I could never understand why my Mother and Grandmother felt that way. After all, they were always the life of the party. Both of them had family and many friends who adored them. They were pied pipers wherever they went, taking their willing followers on a journey with their funny, quirky stories that we never tired of. In fact I was recently at a party with my Mother where one of the guests was looking in my Mothers direction and gushing on and on about how beautiful she was. My Mother very modestly thanked her. The funny part was that the woman was talking about a cat named Willow that was directly behind...

Aging Authentically and Powerfully

I have been thinking a lot lately about what aging authentically means. In my mission to help Baby Boomer Women defy ageism, I am particularly interested in helping each woman create her life powerfully-from the inside out. How we think about our age is much more important than a number. We can choose to think about our age from a place of innate power and possibility or weakness and limitation. Which perception will create your reality? Do you limit yourself by buying in to what it is expected of you at “your age”? If so-cut it out!!! Who made up that rule anyways? Don’t allow a youth obsessed culture to rent space in your head and heart. Don’t let it define who you are. When you look at how precious every day is, as life becomes shorter, start to embrace each moment and know that you can create the life you want.   Defy the naysayers. Stop playing victim to a number. Create your most amazing memories. Look fear in the face and do the things you have always wanted to do. Embrace your badass self fully. Spread love around. Focus on all of the things that you can do. Do more of the things that you are passionate about and less of the things you “should do”. Be intentional. When each of us owns our authentic power we become comfortable in our own skin and we live our lives fully. Age doesn’t matter. In fact we embrace our age wholeheartedly. We understand that our age has given us so much. Our litmus test for what is true becomes...

Lifestyle Business for the Baby Boomer Woman

As we know all too well, life goes by quickly and I remember my Grandmother telling me that it seems to go by faster as we get older. I don’t know about you but I want to slow it down, to drink up the days and savor them-to live my life even more intentionally now that I am only a couple years shy of my 60th birthday. The good news is that statistics are proving that many of us will have a much longer life than our Grandparents and this begs the question: If you knew that you will live your life for 20 or 30 years or more, what would you like to create in your life? One of the ways that you can create the life that you want is by creating a lifestyle business. A lifestyle business is a business that places what is important to you in your life first and foremost so that your business supports your life instead of the other way around.   I have created 2 lifestyle businesses -my home staging business and my coaching practice and they have brought more joy into my life than I could have imagined. Because of them, I love my work, my time is more flexible, I get to be creative, I have more confidence in myself, I am happier, my family is happier because I am more relaxed, I am healthier physically, emotionally and spiritually because I make sure that I carve out time to go to yoga, eat better and have some “fun time”. I can travel whenever I want. My businesses give...

Baby Boomer Woman -Let’s Defy Ageism

I love being part of the Baby Boomer generation of women who literally changed the world for future generations of women on so many levels. And one of my missions as a coach and thought leader is to beat the drum against the stigma of ageism against women in our society so that our daughters will feel passionate and vital about their lives at every age and know that with age comes so many gifts to be treasured. And it starts with our generation showing them the way-defying the naysayers who would keep us playing small and invisible with the same passion that we did when we burned our bras and lobbied our government for equal rights. It starts with each one of us and all we have to do is lead by example and embrace our one and only life. Let’s show them what we are made of. Let’s show ourselves what we are made of. Let’s stop asking for permission and start taking ownership of the world we create instead of allowing our society to define who we are. Prominent women are speaking up and taking the initiative for change. Meryl Streep funds a screenwriting lab specifically for women over 40 so that women’s voices are heard in film. Not only is there still a large wage gap between what men earn and what women earn, there is currently such a disproportionate number of men screenwriters, that the interesting and rich voices of mature women in our society are becoming obsolete. And that simply can’t happen! Think about it. Movies can change the way we look at...
