Luxury Home Staging- The Grand Colonial Revival

I was recently offered an opportunity to stage a grand estate in Massachusetts. It was by far the largest and most expensive home that I have ever done and I was a bit freaked out-not  because I didn’t think that I could make it look great for the market, but I had only 2 weeks to do it and I was also busy with other jobs and was in the middle of launching my tele summit Fire up Your Client Attractor Factor for Home Stagers. Yikes!!! I literally felt sick to my stomach but there was NO WAY that I was going to pass this one up. The other thing that I forgot to mention is that this particular home would need very specific items that I don’t normally use in order to compliment its unique classic style. I had to work with the existing paint colors and use decorative items that had a more “curated ” feel that one might expect in a Grand Colonial Revival mansion. And that is where the fun began! I knew that it was important to use some of the client’s existing furniture and decor but I also wanted to edit it so that we could breathe new life into it by adding in new items. It was important to think about who the buyer was that might be drawn to this home. Obviously it would be someone with a lot of money, but it also might be someone who loves the privacy of this 14+ acre estate and still wants to be close enough to Boston. It would be someone who appreciates...

Fire up Your Home Staging Biz

for the seasoned stager who wants more-more money, more freedom and more life As a personal and professional development coach, I have spoken with many seasoned home staging clients who started their business because they are creative and talented  and love to express themselves through their work. When it comes to marketing and packaging a house for sale, they are Rockstars. Ironically, these same Rockstars that understand how to market and package a home, fall short when it comes to marketing and packaging their business so that potential clients see their value and want to hire them! They are great at staging but don’t really understand what it takes to grow their business. They play smaller than they should because they don’t expect enough for themselves or they feel as though others have something that they don’t- a secret sauce that they can’t access. The truth is that growing a business takes work! It takes focused attention on the small steps that move you towards the larger goals-the mundane, every day steps as well as the glorious big leaps of faith that propel you forward. It  takes courage to learn about yourself, push boundaries on what you might think is possible and break your self imposed glass ceilings. Many of these same seasoned stagers find that their unpredictable schedules, demands for their time, high maintenance clients and need to please everyone causes them overwhelm and frustration. They are working really hard and feel as though they should be making more money. They simply are not sure what they need to do or which direction they should go in so...

Soul Inspired Decorating

Some of you may know that my background includes home staging and interior decorating. I have been running my business since 2005 and still stage and decorate numerous homes in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. I love doing this. And, although the strategy for staging is different than decorating, I would love to share my philosophy on Soul Inspired Decorating in this article. I believe that your home should be a full expression of who you are. It should not be determined by what your friends like, or what the magazines want you to model, or what you think may or may not be appropriate. It should be endowed with your spirit and the spirit of those living at your home. That is what makes a house a home. I do want to make it very clear that this is a different philosophy when you are staging your home to sell which is all about marketing and packaging to a larger audience. Here are some tips for creating a home aligned with your soul. 1) Create a Vibe in Tune with What Inspires You When decorating your home, what vibe do you want? Think about how you want to experience your home. Maybe you are a minimalist. Perhaps you feel as though you work really hard and your head symbolically needs a place to rest, so too much eye candy in the way of decorations would be too stimulating for you. Or maybe you are an artist like myself who likes to be surrounded by your creations and works in process so what others might perceive as clutter is what...
