Lies We Tell Ourselves About Time and Productivity

Have you ever noticed yourself feeling as though you have no time to spend time with your family, exercise or do a hobby that lights you up? Do you know that you should be working more “on” your business and less “in” it so that you will get better results, but you just can’t find the time? Are you always reacting to your customer’s needs but feel as though there is not enough time in the day to take care of everything and everyone? I know that I have had all of these feelings and I totally understand how easy it is to get swept away with the endless responsibilities that come with being a business owner. However, we have far more control over our time than we think. It just takes stepping back and taking a good hard look at the lies that we tell ourselves about time. Here are a few things to think about: Lie # 1-Being busy is the same as being productive- It is so easy to fill our days with a lot of minutia that makes us feel as though we are being productive but is often “busywork” that is not as important as projects that move our business forward and produce results. It is important to check in throughout the day and ask yourself these questions: “Am I being productive or busy?” “How can I be more proactive and less reactive in my business today?” “What results are my #1 priority today and how can I get them done?” Lie #2- Giving yourself more time to work on a project will help...

5 Ways to Get Unstuck and Get Going with Your Life

Do you ever hear yourself complaining about the same thing over and over again but you do nothing to change it? Do you have big goals but somehow can’t seem to take the first step? Are you simply wishing and hoping that things will change? We all get stuck at different times in our life. I mean, let’s face it-it is so much easier to stay where we are, even if we are unhappy! You know the saying “the devil you know is better than the devil you don’t know”. This is not a saying that would empower anyone to move forward in their lives, right? I mean, why do we have to align ourselves with the devil anyways? Sooooo not cool…… How about this for a shift “the devil you know will keep you stuck in complacency if you don’t do something about it-period!” Now doesn’t that make you want to get into action? The key to getting unstuck lies within you. If you do nothing different-nothing will change. Before you say that this is pretty obvious, let me explain. Most of us know that it is up to us to effect change but we don’t do it because it is so much easier for us to stick with inertia. “An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.” -Newton’s First Law of Motion That unbalanced force is caused by you doing something differently so that you will start creating momentum. Momentum is a force to...

Three Strategies to Supercharge Your Business

I coach many entrepreneurs who are stuck in their business. They want to grow but there are things that get in their way. What is interesting is that it is typically about who they are “being” in their business that keeps them stuck rather than what they are doing. It is their mindset around their challenges that block them. So I would like to propose 3 ways to get out of stuck and start soaring: Set Better Boundaries- Boundaries are important because they help us honor what is really important to us. They allow us to take charge of our time and own our value. When we respect ourselves, others will follow. I remember when I had no boundaries when I was selling Real Estate many years ago. I let my customers dictate my time, always jumping to please. I was like a puppet on a string. I ended up becoming very burnt out and resentful because I never allowed myself any time for me. I wasn’t honoring my own health and well being. What I realize looking back is that I had created this monster because I allowed it to happen instead of setting healthy boundaries. It is the difference between being proactive and reactive. Once I realized that it was up to me to take care of me, everything changed. I felt so much better about my business and it began growing effortlessly. I felt lighter, happier and less stressed. And my customers totally respected my time. I still give awesome service but not at the expense of my health and well being. I made a decision to...

3 Ninja Transformative Questions to Ask Yourself When You Want to Grow Your Business

When I am coaching a client (or myself) I find that the questions that I ask often lead to the biggest break throughs. They help us get to know ourselves better and think more expansively. They challenge us to think differently and come from a place of possibility. With that in mind I thought that I would ask you 3 of the most compelling questions for you to explore. Before you answer these questions make sure that you are relaxed and feeling open.Take a few deep breaths and let them out. Check in with your body and release any tension. And when you are ready, ask yourself: What would I do if I could not fail? Often we get so caught up in making a mistake or not being perfect that we energetically sabotage ourselves. And we hold ourselves back from trying new things because we are afraid we might feel like a fool if we “fail”. We put way too much pressure on ourselves. It is time to lighten up and let go of the attachment to the outcome. When we do this we free up our inner guidance system to “do its thing”. Let go of the attachment to the outcome, be present and try something that you might not have otherwise. If I were playing to win, what might I do? Too often we play the “not to lose game” and that keeps us playing small. It is fear based instead of full of possibility. It keeps us stuck because we are more afraid of losing what we have than gaining something far better-something magnificent! In...

The Inner Game of Business Success

I would like to talk with you about the inner game of business because I truly believe that, as a business owner, the most important key to success is a solid mindset that will allow you to endure all of the challenges that growing a business presents. We can be our own worst enemies. If our mindset is off, we will actually sabotage ourselves by caving when we need to be strong and playing safe when we need to leap. The truth is that everyone approaches their businesses differently and there is no one single way to create a successful business. Your business model should be unique to you and get you excited. That is what will give you the inner energy to follow through when times get tough. And that is why strategies and tactics for growing a business are not enough. You can model all of the same strategies as other successful business owners in your field, but if your mindset is not in alignment and you aren’t excited about what you are striving for , you will sabotage yourself and often you really won’t understand why. Mindset is the foundation to your success! It keeps you grounded, hopeful, resilient and fearless. It will get you through the tough times and provide the energy and fortitude to keep you moving forward. When you implement all of the “right” strategies but don’t have the “energy” behind them, you will easily cave when you meet a challenge or obstacle. Innately you won’t really believe that you can handle the setbacks and you will default to old, limiting patterns that...

Three Big New Years Business Resolutions

This is the time of year that many of us make resolutions for the New Year. The gyms are packed with people who are hell bent on starting the New Year off right. Business owners have made lofty business plans to double and even triple their income. And many of us vow that we will do better this year than we did last year. So why is it that as the months unfold, we will see less people at the gym, the business plans that seemed so exciting at the beginning of the year have fallen short of goals and old self defeating habits have crept back in? I believe that there are three key things that you should focus on in order for you to break that glass ceiling and exceed your own expectations in your business: Re Think Your Business Plan Often business owners write business plans in a very left brain linear way-wanting to go from point a to point b. For example one of the typical goals is to double your income from the previous year. But what does that take? True transformation takes place when you pointedly question who you have to “become” in order to double your income. I truly believe that to grow your business you have to grow yourself. You have to be willing to grow and stretch and think expansively. You literally have to grow into the person who runs a lucrative business. Here is where you have to challenge your usual way of thinking and ask yourself compelling, transformative questions like: Who do I have to become in order...
