Three Big New Years Business Resolutions

This is the time of year that many of us make resolutions for the New Year. The gyms are packed with people who are hell bent on starting the New Year off right. Business owners have made lofty business plans to double and even triple their income. And many of us vow that we will do better this year than we did last year. So why is it that as the months unfold, we will see less people at the gym, the business plans that seemed so exciting at the beginning of the year have fallen short of goals and old self defeating habits have crept back in? I believe that there are three key things that you should focus on in order for you to break that glass ceiling and exceed your own expectations in your business: Re Think Your Business Plan Often business owners write business plans in a very left brain linear way-wanting to go from point a to point b. For example one of the typical goals is to double your income from the previous year. But what does that take? True transformation takes place when you pointedly question who you have to “become” in order to double your income. I truly believe that to grow your business you have to grow yourself. You have to be willing to grow and stretch and think expansively. You literally have to grow into the person who runs a lucrative business. Here is where you have to challenge your usual way of thinking and ask yourself compelling, transformative questions like: Who do I have to become in order...

2016 Approaching-Have You Thought about Coaching???

When I think back on what the single most important investment I have ever made in myself, it was hiring a coach in 2013 when I was feeling stuck, burnt out, depressed and afraid. I was afraid that I would never find the courage to make choices that would allow me to have a better life-a life that I created by my design instead of by default. Had I realized what a game changer this would be for me, I would have done this much sooner. I now know that this decision to invest in a coach was worth every penny and it has enriched my life on soooo many levels. As a result of working with my coach, I left a job that I had been wanting to leave for quite some time and although I was scared to death that I could lose everything, I doubled my income that year! Some of the other benefits of coaching were: I started a new business-my coaching practice I doubled the income from my Home Staging business I am less stressed out and more full of joy My relationships are better I don’t stress out about money like I used to I take better care of my health I am creating my life the way that I want-fearlessly, soulfully and joyfully I feel as though I have way more power over my destiny The gift of coaching that I gave to myself did not come at a time when I had an abundance of money to invest in myself. In fact it was quite the opposite. Ironically, I invested in...

Aging Authentically and Powerfully

I have been thinking a lot lately about what aging authentically means. In my mission to help Baby Boomer Women defy ageism, I am particularly interested in helping each woman create her life powerfully-from the inside out. How we think about our age is much more important than a number. We can choose to think about our age from a place of innate power and possibility or weakness and limitation. Which perception will create your reality? Do you limit yourself by buying in to what it is expected of you at “your age”? If so-cut it out!!! Who made up that rule anyways? Don’t allow a youth obsessed culture to rent space in your head and heart. Don’t let it define who you are. When you look at how precious every day is, as life becomes shorter, start to embrace each moment and know that you can create the life you want.   Defy the naysayers. Stop playing victim to a number. Create your most amazing memories. Look fear in the face and do the things you have always wanted to do. Embrace your badass self fully. Spread love around. Focus on all of the things that you can do. Do more of the things that you are passionate about and less of the things you “should do”. Be intentional. When each of us owns our authentic power we become comfortable in our own skin and we live our lives fully. Age doesn’t matter. In fact we embrace our age wholeheartedly. We understand that our age has given us so much. Our litmus test for what is true becomes...

Are You a Waffler?

One who waffles, from the verb waffle, meaning to never settle on a stance on one (or more) issue(s); A waffler usually goes from one side to the other and back again, usually multiple times, depending on who (s)he is talking to at the time. -Urban Dictionary A dear friend of mine has amazing design instincts and yet she is currently stuck in “I don’t know land” about a paint color for her kitchen. It has been going on for quite some time. She currently has a gorgeous hand painted mural of a garden scene that is timeless but the walls abutting it are a dated faux finish so she wants to change them to a solid colored paint and she is torturing herself over what color to pick. Should she go with the gray lavender that is in walls in the hall adjoining for a subtle consistent flow or a pear color that is in the bird in the mural for a pop of color and fun? She asked me my opinion on the colors she was thinking of and I told her what I thought. My background is in art and design so it made sense to consult with me on this. She has also asked the opinion of numerous others which has caused her to waffle. Basically I let her know that none of her choices were wrong-she has a great eye- but each choice would give her a different feeling and she had to choose which feeling she wanted. That is where she has to make the decision. This is where the “rubber meets the road”...

Time to Kiss Your Inner Critic Bye Bye

Have you ever finally gotten the courage to create what you want in your life and you are feeling really great about it and then……kaboom…… you start getting plagued by self doubt and limiting beliefs? Perhaps you start thinking things like: “Why did I ever think that I could finish this? Who am I to do this? I don’t know what I am doing. I am lost. I don’t have what it takes to do this”. Welcome to the world of your self sabotaging, spirit sucking inner critic. Our inner critic saps us of our motivation and makes us feel as though our actions are futile and because it causes us anxiety, our natural inclination is to avoid the very thing that we need to do to move forward. It can paralyze us, cause us to avoid through procrastination or addictive behaviors or withdraw. One of the ways that my inner critic used to show up was in the middle of an art project. I would be going along happily and then I would get stuck. I would think to myself “I am totally screwing this up. I don’t like the way that this is coming out. Maybe I should just start over. Why did I think that I could do this anyway? Argggghhhhh” It seemed to happen every time! Recognizing this voice helped. I learned to say to myself, “Marianne, just walk away and when you come back, look at the whole picture-the bird’s eye view and then trust your gut -your divine inner wisdom-and then go with it”. We always have a choice regarding the way we...
