I am amazed at how fast life goes by. I am 57 years old and can’t believe where the time has gone and I am often reminded of one of my favorite quotes by singer Bonnie Raitt “Life gets mighty precious when there is less of it to waste”.
And instead of sticking my head in the sand and letting the river of life take me mindlessly along, I want to live each day intentionally-to build my dreams with purpose and gusto and to enjoy the journey-more than ever!
The way that I see it is, I am co creating with the Universe.
What about you? What do you want? How do you envision living the rest of your life?
If you are interested in being more intentional about your life, I would like to offer some ways to help you get started.
1) Let Go of The Old to Let in The New– In order to reinvent yourself you have to be willing to let go of your old “way of being” to let in the new “way of being”. Most often this begins with your mindset. You have to be willing to challenge the way you have been operating from the inside out.
For example, if you always put everyone else’s needs first so that there is nothing left for you, you might begin by taking simple steps.
Remind yourself that it is perfectly ok to ask for help, let someone else do for you or learn how to say no when you find yourself doing something that you really don’t want to do.
Avoid the urge to always be the one doing for everyone but you!
Start taking baby steps by setting your boundaries and begin doing more of what you really want.
2) Start Challenging Your Comfort Zone-We all get too comfortable and often we don’t venture beyond our preconceived limits.
But that’s no fun!!!
In order to live full out we must grow beyond what is easy and comfortable and we can make it fun instead of laborious. It is all mindset!
One of my favorite quotes is by Neal Donald Walsh “Life begins at the edge of your comfort zone”.
It is never too late to start doing something that you have always wanted to do. You just have to be willing to stretch your boundaries and be ok with “failure”.
In fact start embracing failure and start looking at it as a little bump in the road to success (and not as something bad). It is getting you one step closer to your goal.
The point is, no one gets things perfect while they are learning and growing. It is the ones that understand and accept that who become successful.
The road to success is a marathon, not a sprint. Savor it and enjoy all of the small successes along the way. This is the glorious journey of your life. Enjoy the ride!
3) Get Back That “Anything is Possible” Feeling of Your Youth- Remember how you used to feel when you were young and the world was ahead of you. You just knew that you could do or become anything that you wanted.
You were excited about the possibilities and felt confident and hopeful about the future (and maybe a little bit scared about how you were going to make your dreams come true).
Try and tap into that land of infinite possibilities and know that it is never too late to create your life your way. You have a say in it until your last breath.
Find the joy and the hope in this co creation with the universe.
Here is an exercise to do to tap into that “anything is possible feeling”.
Have a journal or something to write on nearby. Get into a comfortable seated position and make sure that all distractions are off (TV, etc.). Quiet your mind and take 3 deep, slow breaths into your belly and slowly let them out. Let your body relax. When thoughts come into your mind, let them go. Focus on the breath until you feel calm and centered.
Now ask your self this simple question:
What would I like to create in my life?
Keep breathing and stay centered. Don’t rush an answer….just let it come. It will come to you when it is time.
When an answer comes to you-follow it, no matter how outrageous it may seem. Once you have an answer or some kind of a sign, start writing about it in your journal as if you have created what you want.
Muse about it-feel it, hear it, smell it as though you are already there.
Don’t think about how this creation will happen. It is too soon for that. The idea is to build the dream big first. Let it soak into your sub conscious. Savor it!
Every day add something about what you are creating “as if” you are doing it. Think big and “go for it”. This is your dream so you can do whatever you want.
It is up to you to create what you want in your life. Make it fun, exciting and creative. Be patient with yourself and just keep taking one step, then another and another and you will begin to see the possibilities.
Cheers to all that you are becoming,
